内容简介(英文) P’u Ju (style name Hsin-yu; sobriquet His-shan I-shih) was a native of Wan-p’ing. Hopeh (modern Peiping). A scion of the Ch’ing imperial family and descendent of Prince Kung (1832-1898), he began to study art. Calligraphy, and poetry as a youth and achieved an elegant untrammeledness in all of them. This painting in colors is of a branch of red plum blossoms and green bamboo. The composition is ingeniously simpleand refined. The coloration is elegant and unsullied. The stalks of bamboo turn up and down as they twist and extend from the left side. The plum branch stretches out naturally as they both support and complement each other. The composition of the painting corresponds to the content of the inscribed poem in the upper part of the painting: “Wishes for an early spring; Peace and everlasting rewards.” More than one meaning is implied in this poem, thus fully expressing the inseparable bond between the complementary Chinese arts of poetry, calligraphy, and painting.

内容简介(英文) P’u Ju (style name Hsin-yu, alternate name Hsi-shan i-shih) was a native of Wanping in Hebei (Beijing). A scion of the Qing dynasty imperial family and descendant of Prince Gong, since youth he delved into the arts, his poetry and calligraphy being particularly elegant and refined.
This work depicts a branch of red plum blossoms and a stalk of green bamboo. The composition is ingeniously simple yet refined, the coloring also elegant and unsullied. The bamboo stalk turns up and down as it twists and extends from the left side, intertwined with the plum branch stretching out naturally as they complement each other. Using a play on words, the composition of the painting corresponds to the contents of the inscribed poem in the upper right part of the painting: “Wishes for an early spring; Peace and everlasting rewards.” More than one meaning can be implied by this poem, thus fully expressing the inextricable bond between the complementary Chinese arts of poetry, calligraphy, and painting (the “Three Perfections”).
Mr. Liu Te-feng donated this work to the National Palace Museum in 1981.(20110204)
